The department of Mechanical Engineering at Coimbatore Institute of Engineering and Technology was started in the year of 2009. The department offers an undergraduate programme B.E. Mechanical Engineering with sanctioned intake of 180 students, postgraduate programme M.E., Engineering Design with a sanctioned intake of 18 Students and Doctoral Research Programme. The department has separate wing, state-of-the-art laboratories with advanced software and department library.
The department has a team of highly qualified, dedicated and motivated faculty members and they are continually publishing the results of their research work as technical papers in international and national journals and conferences. An interactive relationship is maintained between the students and staff which enable the students to develop a sound foundation in the stream in a conducive environment.

In today’s fast-changing world, the ever-growing challenges of limited resources, rapid climate changes and preservation of environment demand a new generation of mechanical engineers cultivated in the necessary skills and innovative spirit to meet them.

The department is fully equipped with the required facilities for effective delivery of lectures, state of the art computational facilities and laboratory facilities. More emphasis is being given to practical classes through effective, elaborate and rigorous laboratory classes to reinforce the theoretical knowledge gained during theory classes.
